Is a Science or Non-Science Background the Key?
On March 8, 2006, about 30 AMWA members and guests gathered in a private room at Maggiano's Little Italy at Old Orchard. When guests arrived, they enjoyed classic Italian appetizers while mingling with other attendees.
The great conversations continued as guests were served a delicious family-style dinner, followed by decadent desserts.
After dinner, panelists Valerie Liebelt, Rick Hyer, Lisa Wann, and Jayme Opolka began a discussion on the topic, "Success as Medical Writer: Is a Science or Non-Science Background the Key?" Each panelist shared information about his or her educational background and how they came to be Medical Writers. Guests had the opportunity to ask questions about educational programs that the panelists recommended for becoming better Medical Writers, must-have science and non-science reference books for the successful Medical Writer, and panelists' perspectives on how a science or non-science background can be beneficial in the field. By the end of the evening, guests left with their appetites satisfied for both fine food and for learning.
